Black eye

I'm posting this photo not because I think it's a good shot, (too far away), but because I have never before photographed a hawk with such a dark eye. I believe this is a Red-tail, but his eye has no detail at all. It is solid black. I had good lighting and the exposure was right on, but I could not find any color in that eye.

I've noticed the last couple days that the hawk migration must have started. I've seen more hawks in the last 2 days than I have all year.
