New puppy itching

I just picked up my new brittany pup on Sunday and put a collar on him for the first time. Since then he has been itching his neck like crazy and now has two open sores. I took his collar off and he quits itching. Do you think he could be alergic to the collar material or is it just that he isn't used to wearing a collar?

I'd leave his collar off until the sores heal. Then, I'd try a different type of collar. That way, you'll know. My first guess is, he just needs to get used to the collar. Dogs can be allergic to many things, but the allergies usually come from food.

I'd be willing to bet he's just not used to having a collar on. Takes a while to get used to, just like the leash! In time, he'll not even know it's there.

Sounds like it is just the collar. How big and heavy is it? After the sore heals try a real small light weight collar. maybe even a cat collar, till they get used to it.
