Rainbow locations

I'm new to fishing Rainbows, but what depths do you usually find them at? I've fished them once a couple feet under the ice in 20 ft of water along a sharp break but had no luck. Just curious as to where people find them.

I usally catch them on or near a flat. They are like Lake Trout in a way. They can be caught at any depth in the winter, but usally they are swimming within the first 5 feet below the ice. As of this year I'm catching my rainbows deeper then ten feet, but have seen a few right below the ice.
One other thing. Be quite. Be very quite and you will see fish.
