Long Lake/ Weeds

I'm new to fishing the lake but I was there last year around the 4th of July and the weeds were nothing compared to what they are now. Are they usually this bad? If so, why?

I don't know which Long Lake you are talking about but I'll take a shot here. The lake probably has Curled Pondweed in it. It comes up early and is thick and grows right up to the surface. But by the end of June it dies off and is done for the year. That's probably why you didn't see it last year around the 4th of July.

That makes sense. I was referring to the long lake just east of Centuria.

It's always been a weedy lake, particularly at either end. I don't recall if there's curly-leaf pondweed but it is pretty common in the area. You can fish through the weeds if you go with some weedless setups, but I prefer to fish the outside edge on that lake so weedless isn't always necessary.
