I own a 1999 ranger 681 VS boat and trailer. The trailer is oil bath hubs. I had one fixed last year and the other side this year. I've taken it in both times and it has cost me $200 with no major damage. The main cost is labor and they did not guarantee their work as they recommened either changing the hub or replacing with grease bearings. The problem with oil bath is if the dust cap gets loose or leaks I'm screwed. So my question is how can I fix oil bath bearings myself? And should I look into switching from oil to grease?
