Question on getting a hunting dog from the Humane Society
Tony Holland replied to waxworm09's topic in Hunting Dogs
I am 3 for 3 on getting dogs form the Humane Society. All have been very good hunters most had no idea what hunting was until I worked with them in the field, but they have all been very good dogs. Now that being said I do not just walk in and take the first dog I find, i want to make sure he/she has the disposition that a I want taking into consideration the enviroment that they are in. I would be happy to show you my current lab "Hunter" and show you that wonderful dogs can and do come from the pound. Also it is my belief that any dog can be a good dog, that part is up to the owner.. I spend alot of time with my 4 legged friend. -
Black Lab Puppy for 9 year old boy & family who lost 3 dogs in fire
Tony Holland replied to Grabs's topic in Hunting Dogs
I would be willing to pay the adoption fees to help this family out if they can find a dog at the Humaine Society... They have several black labs that are homeless also. Check it out and let me know. Thanks, Tony -
I will throw my opinion in the mix, I was very lucky to have found my dog at a Animal Humane Society. He was only 125.00 and I possibly saved his life, and made room to hopefully save another dogs life also. I had watched the rescue websites and found a calm, healthy and wonderful lab. I tried the hunting commands that they would learn at training and he responded to all of them heel, sit, stay, drop, etc. So i had a complete hunting machine for the price of $125. I think i was lucky, yes but with some patience and determination we found a great dog. I am not trying to say the buying for a reputable breeder is a bad thing at all just saying that you can have other options available also. My dog Hunter is the black lab on the left. An expensive AKC lab is on the right. Our first hunt this year. Your owner also plays the most important part in the development of any dog also!!

Great photo, looks like we might have twin Hunters. I had to share my dog Hunter the Black lab first hunt from this weekend also. He is from the pound, but did a great job.

I am far from an expert, i have been getting older dogs from the pound my whole life. Every one has been a block head male lab that knows all the obidience but will not obey. Only when he wants to. One time out with a shock collar will show him that you mean business and that when you tell him a command he needs to follow it. Most will only need it one time, i put mine on my dog just to make sure he knows i mean business. I rarely ever shock the dog, the vibrate feature is a wonderful thing. Also dont just crank the collar up to 100 start it at the lowest setting that gets the dog attention. If 20 is not working go to 30 ect.ect. He will get the point. Just make sure understands and knows the commands you are telling them. If they dont know basics the e-collar is not a good choice.

any app will run on 64 bit, it is only if they check the version before installtion. If it is an app that uses hardware that needs drivers then you would need 64 bit drivers for that hardware (Which can be difficult). But as far as applications, a 32 bit app will run fine on 64 bit. Remember you can always run apps in XP Mode with windows 7 and your XP mode will be 32 bit. Having Intel Virtualiztion Technologies availible to turn on in the BIOS is a requirement for XP Mode. Most newer computers have this but not all.

They all were British labs at one point. A 1800.00 "British" lab can end up high strung, disobedient etc just as much an "American Lab" Proper training of ANY dog is essential. I got my dog "Hunter" from the Golden Valley Humane Society at 2 years old. I have no idea if he is British or American but I have worked into developing him into a great hunter, and a great family dog. He had none of those traits out of the gate but I worked several hours every day with him and now people cannot believe how wonderful he is to hunt and be around for a family dog. If you want to devote time and patience with any dog "British" or not you will be completely happy with your results. Tons of great information on this HSOforum about common problems and how to help with them. Just my 2 cents good luck on your search.

Hello all, I am a newbie house owner and have a old tired lawn, my plan was to hopefully requivenate it this fall. I saw the rain and cooler temps coming for this week and decieded to start my fall overseeding project. I rented an areator and core areated my whole lawn, went to bachman's and bought enough of the correct seed to cover the lawn. On Monday i used a broadcast spreader to spread the seed, applied starter fertilizer and watered each area for 45 mins or so. Now in plymouth we got all that rain almost 2 inches on wednesday is my overseeding project going to be a wash or am i ok?? I was hoping for rain just not quite that much. Thanks Tony

My dog Hunter, was shedding, itching and had terrible gas with any type of lamb and rice, or chicken and rice food. I tried the Taste of the Wild bison/venison blend, his itching and shedding was reduced and his coat is beautiful, but his gas and stool was not as good as before. I switched to the Taste of the Wild Salmon and WhiteFish recipe and have had outstanding results. No more room clearing gas and his coat is shiny and does not itch or shed much anymore. I have been very happy with it.

I have gas problems with my lab and finally found a food that does not give him gas. Taste of the Wild "Pacific Stream" The food does not contain any grain, all fish and vegetables. His gas problem went from clearing the room to virtually gone. I think his shedding has gone done and his coat is really shiny since switching foods. We did have some luck when he had the bad gas to give him plain yogurt after his evening meal. That seemed to help some. Fetch Delivers in MPLS drops "Taste of the Wild" off at your door for same cost as Chuck and Don's. Let me know if you would like more information.

Here is my Dog Hunter 3 yrs old from the Golden Valley Humane Society

I have gotten every dog from the Golden Valley Humane Society. All 3 have been pheasant hunting machines. My Lab "Hunter" he came with that name has been fantastic. He came with the 200.00 adoption fee. Lots of labs at the humane society, not saying that all are perfect but take your time and spend a lot of time with them and you can get a good idea of the attitude of the dog. I could not be happier. I was going to get a purebred from a breeder, but i promised myself that i would donate whatever i spent on a dog to the humane society. Ended up finding my perfect dog at humane society anyways..... Just my 2 cents.... Picture of Hunter

My Etrade Savings account is paying 1.45% APR. Used to be 2.5%. I like it because it is very liquid, i can move to my Etrade checking, or trading account whenever I want. I have been very happy with Etrade.... Also the Max Rate Checking is .75% APR. It also refunds you for all ATM fees and never charges and ATM fee.

I have used a few different combo's. My first leadcore combo and cheapest was the Cabela's Accudepth 47 Linecounter and Cabelas 6'6 Leadcore rod. Combo price around 70.00 For Longlines i started with Accudepth 27 and cabelas 8'6 telescoping "Planer Board" rod. This combo was also around 70.00. Now that I have learned how to troll and what works etc...i have upgraded to shimano tekota linecounters and st. croix tidemaster rods for long lining, and Cabelas Deptymaster Golds and still using their "leadcore" 6'6 rods and 5 ft Shortie rods. Funny thing is that fish dont care what type of equiptment you use it is all in the presentation. Some of the more expensive equiptment just makes the presentation a little easier.

I edited my post i did mean Taste of the Wild...... I have heard very good things about the kirkland brand also, same as diamond i believe.
-
I have been very happy with my dogtra not saying that other brands are bad just have not needed to switch as the dogtra has been great.

I was on NutriSource, but I think my lab is allergic to some of the grain he was shedding terribly and his coat was losing some of its sparkle. I switched to "Taste of the Wild" Big change to an all natural food with no grain but his turd size has been cut in half and his coat and shedding is much better. Call of the wild is rated a six out of six stars on dog food anaylysis dot com Cost is 39.00 for a 35 lb bag i believe.
