Fishing with Leeches

JewellOutdoors

Recommended Posts

In central Minnesota the ice has gone out of the ponds, and the trappers are starting to catch a few. The leeches haven't had much time to grow yet, but as water temps rise, so will the food content and size!

Feel free to share your best story of catching fish on leeches - and if you're willing let us know your best piece of advice for using leeches as bait.

I never was able to spend that much time with my grand parents since they lived in another state. However, one summer, Grandpa flew out from Michigan to spend a few days with us. Dad, Grandpa, and I loaded up our 16' Lund with nothing but leeches and cane poles. Gramps refused to fish with anything other than a long cane pole.

We went out to Lady Lake, just north of Grey Eagle, MN and caught a good number of perch and sunnys. No records broken, but a good childhood memory made possible by leeches, cane poles, and family.
