Coverting pull start to electric start

Recommended Posts

I have a 81' Merc 50 hp. Runs like new. I want to put an electric starter on this but have some questions.

I noticed that there is already a starter holder on the motor and the flywheel has the teeth for the starter motor to grab.

Should adding an electric starter be much of a job? I can't find anything on the net.

Anyone know a shop in the NE metro that would do the job?

Thx,

Mike

It shouldn't be too difficult of a job. I presume you have no battery cables, correct?

The other thing you'll probably want to install will be a stator and rectifier, which will cost more money. You can get by without these, but your battery won't be charged by the motor at all.

The starter by itself is a pretty straight forward install.

I'd check with Hannays in the North Metro.
