GPS/Depth Finders

3 posts in this topic

I'm looking at buying a new system this Spring. Here are the three I'm looking at:

Lowrance LMS-160 MAP : $589.00
Garmin GPSMAP 168 Sounder : $529.00
Garmin GPSMAP 185 Sounder : $899.00

Beside the price difference, does anybody have some info for me? I'm open to other brand names. What I really want is GPS and depth in the same unit if possible.

I realize some people are going to be passionate about the one they use but I'm really looking for facts/solid reasons regarding the various units on the market.

How about prices? Do you have an info on places that may offer a better price than the ones listed? They are from Reed's Sporting Goods in Walker.

    • I do all of my hunting with a 20ga
    • I blame the Republicans National Committee for not grooming better candidates.     Are you "Pro-Life" or "Pro-choice" ?
    • Neighbor Guy, you shoot a 20 gauge for smaller birds like bufflehead and teal?
    • Wasn't that about the time of the split and reorganization?   I would bet that the file hierarchy changed so the link is broken.       You can use the date on there as a guide and look back in the topics list by selecting old pages.  For example the "smoked duck marinade" thread is on page 152.    Here is the broken link And here is the working link I don't see any obvious way to convert the links so if there is one that you want to read, make note of the date and make a few tries in the topic list.  It only took me like three or four to find the duck one.     Shack seems to have found better stuff to do than hang around here..   Someone with nothing to do could redo the list.      Be a good day's work to go through the 158 pages.   Maybe after snow flies.
    • You might try calling shorelandr.   When I called them (some years ago) they were very helpful.   Second choice would be take it to a good auto parts store.  I bet they can tell you what it is and sell you another.
    • B & B in Cloquet has whole porkbutt for $1.29 lb this week if you need to fill the freezer.

    • The first hand report from LOW is its very quiet up here. I was told there were redheads and cans on the bay last weekend. Not much moving here at all today. The marina mallards and even a few bluewings are still hanging around. But most of what was tolling the decoys this morning was buffleheads. Most birds in pairs or singles. No real flocks. Very little in the way of shooting by me or anyone else.
    • might be the worst "tailgate shot" ever. 4-buffleheads and a ringer in there all cozied up together.
    • Specks showed up on the the sodak border this morning. Wind forecast to turn north. Could bring some fun and be one of the first real duck migration days.
