2 Stroke, 4 Stroke?? Merc, Yamaha, Suzuki??

Guest

Question

Looking at a new 1775 ProV SE. I currently have a Mr. Pike 17 (2001) with a 2 stroke Merc 125 (2002).

Any pros, cons, tips or suggestions on what motor would be much appreciated. I am currently looking at the 115 Merc. As I understand it, it is basically a Yamaha power head.

Is the 4 stroke the right answer? I'd also given some thought to going with a 150hp 2 stroke.

Again, tips and experiences would be much appreciated.

Just have a 25hp 4 stroke. Love it. I would never go back to a 2 stroke. Fewer problems, quieter, can troll with it if I like, uses much less gas. I think the added cost and weight is very much worth it.

The way I understand it is the the Merc. is a Yamaha powerhead but the lower units are different. Now I don't know which is better I have a friend that worked for a Marine Dealership for several years and he like Yamahas. I myself like merc but I think if I were looking only at 4 strokes I would agree with him and get a Yamaha. Quiet as a kitten and simple to maintain.
