Driftless
saw them fishing spawn downstream with these insanely long rods. I tried it with my steelie NINE foot spinning rod and it worked. A light bulb went on. Why not use it in the snag ridden and down logs of the Wisconsin driftless small streams?Nine foot spinning rod with 20 pound power pro and a double eyed swivel. 10 inches of fluorocarbon 10 pound test. Place a crappie float on that keeps the crawler 5 inches off of the bottom. The key is to put 2 small splits below the bobber. One at 12 inch above crawler and another a foot below the bobber. Hook the crawler one time with a smaller hook through the collar of the crawler and let the crawler float downstream under log jams and under cut banks. The 9 foot medium heavy fenwick spinning rod is perfect for setting the hook. The key is to actively fish the crawler. Don't deadstick it and set the hook on any change in the crappie bobber. I believe this technique will be killer for HUGE small stream browns that can not be gotten at any other way. Will submit some photos in this thread in May when I rig it up and will show any success I had.
