SoDak lottery goose tags

Recommended Posts

I was going to entitle this as "sour grapes" but, changed my mind. Some guy from Baudette, Minn (name withheld by me) wrote a letter addressed to our Gov'n complaining about not drawing a non-res goose tag. I got a pretty good chuckle over it. Then went on to compare how many non-res hunt pheasants hunters to those that hunt ducks and geese. Finally he ranted about his cash not being spent here. Hundreds of non res don't draw tags of various sorts as well as residents. That's the way it goes, period. There is only so much game for so many hunters and residents do get the lion's share. Us residents don't get overrun with high dollar visitors elbowing us out of access to hunting spots, which is good for us. After all, we are the ones that pay the taxes and fees to pay folks to run our GF&P which is an appointed commission not run by legislators who wouldn't know the difference between a prairie chicken & a capon. If this guy wants to tell the Gov'n himself, the number is 1-605-773-3212. I'm sure there are several folks here that did not draw at some time or other for whatever game. But, that's just what a lottery is......luck of the draw. It's not that the state does not appreciate the revenue that non-res's generate.

Part of the reason our waterfowling is as good as it is can be directly attributed to the lottery. We don't need a pay-to-play atmosphere popping up for ducks and geese like it has for pheasants. Its already tough enough to get permission in certain areas. If he wants to travel to hunt ducks so bad, Canada is a stone's throw from his residence, or there's Nodak too...

some people just don't get it.
