Jarrod32
Let's hear some hunting reports. We don't need any secret spots...just some general info about how the hunts are going. We got out today...set out to hunt pheasant, but ended up with more ducks than pheasant. Though that seems to be pretty standard the last couple of years. Walked a game production area, and came upon a small pond at the end that was holding some buffleheads. My buddy shot a nice, mature, full-color drake and a mature hen. So...a stop at the taxidermist on the way home. I picked up a small bufflehead on that pond. We ended up with one pheasant, the buffleheads, a redhead, and a couple mallards. We were out two weeks ago for resident only, and got our limit of pheasants along with five ducks. Hunting has been pretty good in the early going so far this year. Here is a (poor quality camera phone) photo of the mixed bag from resident-only weekend two weeks ago:
lindy rig
Jarrod - I'm heading out your way in two days. How are the water levels and crop reports? Do I need my hip boots like last year?? LOL.....
Jarrod32
Crops are a lot further along than this time last year. Most all of the beans are out, and most of the corn. Still some swampy areas...bring the hip boots, though you won't always need them...you might want them in a couple places.

lindy rig
Two guys and one dog. We shot limits two of the three days we hunted. Came home with 17 birds total. Saw a good number of birds the first day, but then they were harder to find on Friday and Saturday. More guys out hunting than I remember seeing the last couple years. Jarrod32
Four of us went out yesterday, and had our limit of pheasant by about 2:00, then a couple of us went and ended the migration of a few more mallards...Pheasant hunting in the Edmunds County area, the duck hunting in northern Brown County. FATTY56
Jarrod32 is there a good number of ducks in that area heading that way in 2 days? Is there a lot of people hunting? any info would be greatly apprtianted!
frabillfisher
Made it out on sunday. Hunted a cut corn field with a small patch of water in it hopeing to get into the honkers but only ended up with a greenhead and a couple gadwall. Canadas seemed to have dissapered. Hopefully colder temps setting in for this weekend will make for some new birds comeing in.
Jarrod32
Fatty56...lots of ducks around. Did you have a specific area you were going to, or just north central/northeast South Dakota generally?
FATTY56
We are planning to hopefully hunt north of groton, but if the birds are not there we might have to go somewhere else.
carpshooterdeluxe
the duck hunting is pretty consistent right now. plenty of options though; flooded corn, flooded beans, dry corn, dry beans, sloughs, lakes; everybody is doing it a different way but everybody i know is not having a problem shooting mallards, pintails, and divers. not to mention snows as well.
