Tiller Shifter Replacement

5 posts in this topic

Im in the process of buying a 74 Johnson 10hp for 50 bucks. Obviously theres something wrong with it so here it is. The guy says "it is probably the cable that is linked to the bottom of the shaft that puts it in to gear or something". So my question to you is 1. Is this an easy fix and does anyone know the cost of the part or 2. Rough estimate at getting it fixed. Sorry for the little info, the guy isnt too knowledgeable in motors.

If its a 74, then its a 9.9 and there is no cable. There is however a shift shaft. Do you have any other info? Is it not going into gear?

He said it would run but wouldn't shift into gear. He called it a cable but doesn't know much. Do you know if its easy to fix?

Still a little too wide open to give an estimate. It could be anything like a broken shift cradle or wore out clutch dog or as simple as adjustment or the shift rod is disconnected.

    • One of my better ones up at the lake last summer. Finely diced fresh garlic, finely diced fresh onion, hand full of shredded cheddar cheese, tea spoon Liq smoke, big spoon of Jalapeno mustered all mixed in meat. Put on a toasted onion bun with a slice of cheddar cheese and topped with sautéed morel mushrooms and bacon! At least the burger was 93% fat free!
