Swimbait Rods for Musky Fishing?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a rod to throw smaller plastics (unweighted slug-go's and tubes) as well as smaller bucktails. I've noticed a lot of west coast anglers are giving high praise to Okuma's swimbait line of rods. I was curious if anyone has any experience with these rods? They aren't musky specific but do seem to be built to the same specs that I'm looking for in other musky rods as well as a decent price. The split grip with the ergonomic butt handle looks like it might be a winner for finesse fishing light plastics and burning bucktails in the spring time. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

In-Fisherman's 2008 Musky/Pike annual issue has an article called "Musky Light" - Doug Stange talks specifically about his use of SwimBait rods and smaller reels.

Not a huge amount of detail, but may be helpful.
