I've seen a dramatic decrease of this species in Duluth over the past week. This is a lovely image, great natural setting and I like the bits of sky that come through in the bg. Did you use some type of softening filter? Looks great.

Thanks Shawn for the kind comments...I will miss these colorful chirping little guys but we all know they'll be back next winter once again....looking forward to the spring birds migrating north....warblers,sparrows,finches etc ....and one of my favorites, the colorful american redstart....great photo opportunities lie ahead!....No filters used on this image(actually no filters used on any of my images)...I post process my images and on this one I used "Picasa"...great program and easy to use,I really enjoy it....I "soften" a lot of my images and always have I guess.....Just depends of what I think looks best for that particular image I'm posting...will it be better "tack sharp" or softened abit...personal preference I guess...

no "softning" done on this image.....

Thanks jonny for posting all the great images of redpolls this winter. Looks like they've officially pulled out down south here. Nearly 100 of them 2 days ago down to one yesterday to none today. Unfortunately, we'll be less apt to see them again in this location next winter than you guys up north will. No doubt I will miss them but I won't miss their $15/week thistle seed habit. Oh well, better than spending it on cigarettes I reckon. grin
