cherokee
I've been doing it the hard way for 30 some years. I started spearing back when I was about 12 and first started with just a chisel. Chiseled a hole in the center of the block to help pry it out of the hole. Next got a hand auger to do four corners and chisel inbetween. Still prying ice out of hole with the chisel. Moved on to gas auger and bored all holes connecting so hardly had to chisel at all still prying the ice chunk out of the hole. Now, fast forward to 3 weeks ago. My dad who is cleaning out his garage and so on as they are contemplating moving gave me an ice tong.Well the last day of the season I had a chance to use it and boy that ice block sure comes out a lot easier than using a chisel. What was I thinking doing it the hard way for so long? LOL.
shamalex72
I used to do the same thing, pry it out with a chisle. Then I found some tongs laying on the side of the road. They aren't the best, but it works better than the chisle.
