Zdaddy76
I'm headed up to my girlfriend's parents cabin on Grindstone Lake in Hayward WI this weekend. He father doesn't fish much and I was thinking of trying to fish with him. I have been there before and tried my old tricks I use in the Minneapolis Metro area and in the Boundry waters but to no avail. The water is really clear on Grindstone... Do I have to fish for Walleye at night?? What do I use for bait??? Please help? I will trade secrets via e-mail about Lake Minnetonka or the BWCA if you want to too.---Zdaddy[email protected]
Howieroch
My inlaws have a cabin in that area where we fish for walleyes a lot. If we wake up in the morning and there is no wind we don't even bother trying for the 'eyes. On those clear lakes the wave action is key, the more wind the better. Later in the year, we fish the weedlines with slip bobbers and jigs - when the weeds are up the wind isn't quite as important. The nice thing about that area is that the next lake is only a mile or two, and they all hold fish. We tend to fish different lakes depending on the conditions of the day.
redneck1
Zdaddy-its tough to catch walleyes on those clear lakes up there. I fish Round lake which is also very clear. I have success on rock piles. Look for any rock piles that have good points to them. fish these ponts. Also if you want to try smallies, I know that lake has some pigs, wake up early and flip tubes or crankbaits to 12-15 ft. rockpiles. Even better stop in at pastikas, or go to their HSOforum, and they will give you some goos advice. Hope this helps
Little Joe
Hit some of the popular bars out there (Center, Kentucky, Anthony, The Waterfront ) during low-light periods. Lighted slip bobbers with a fathead have worked for me in the past along with jig/minnow combo's. Trolling raps on shoreline breaks has also worked after dark. Forget about day fishing for walleye unless you have good cloud cover.........Good luck.
