Does anyone know where to fish Waleyes on Middle McKenzie early in the year like this. Got a cabin on Dunn Lake....fished that and Island last weekend. Did OK, but nothing special...a few males, nothing big. New to the area and trying to get familiar with the lakes. Would appreciate a tip.

I spent a couple days on middle over memorial weekend and caught some small eyes between the 2 rock bars in the SE corner. The bass were going nuts and after catching more nice bass than walleyes I decided to target the crappies. What a great lake for crappies! I'd never fished for them here so I just trolled a tube jig with a spinner and found a great spot on the edge of the weeds where it drops to 20+. This has been a great lake for eyes in recent year but the indians declared it this year and I'm not very hopeful it will be good for long! I was surprised to see how shallow the new rock bar is, hopefully it will not just help the indians take more fish from this lake!!!

WS,

I've spent much more time on Big than any other lake in the area! I've opened on big for 15 years and although it's not as good as it once was there are still plenty of eyes to be had. For starters, there are 2 large rock bars near the landing. The first is by the culvert gone to middle and the second being the point out to the left from the public landing. Early in the year it's good right on top of these but this time of year I'd start on the break into deeper water. In years past both have been marked with bouys but as of 2 weeks ago they were not out yet. There is another rock point strait across the lake out from West point which is worth noting but make sure not to navigate over the top of it! If you don't find any fish in these spots the sunken islands are another great option especially the one to the north(?) of West Point. Let me know if you come across any skies out there as I have spent some time for them but only seen them walley fishing. To many spots to list on this lake. If you want some more please share some insight on your prowess in the area...

Good Luck!

I am going up again next weekend and will give it a try. I have a cabin on Dunn Lake, about 8 miles east, and have been fishing many of the smaller lakes around there. My original intent was to go to know Dunn, but that is a lot cause. I have spent a lot of time on casey, and island. casey will produce some excellent crappies and I have gotten into eyes on island. If you are interested in either of these two let me know. My neighbor is a muskie guide in the area, I will ask him where the bite has been and where they are on Big. I will keep you posted.

WS,

Thanks for ckecking on the Skie's! I've fished them on Yellow, Big and a "nameless" river. I've had my best luck on Yellow but saw a fish push 60 on "nameless" last fall which has me VERY distracted. If you have some muskie info to pass on please e-mail rather than post.

Thanks,
Joe
