60,000 Mile Scheduled Service

Recommended Posts

What are some of the major items on the 30K/60K/90K service schedules you guys recommend? I have a '06 Subaru Outback I bought new with 62,000 on it now. Have not done much except oil changes and a radiator flush. I'm being told to do the differentials, tranny flush, spark plugs, brake fluid, and a fuel system cleaning (some of these were recommended at 30K.) I want to protect my investment - but even just doing some of these every 30,000 miles could get spendy...what would be some of the easier ones to do myself?

In your owners manual there will be a the service intervals listed. Usually in the back. This will give you a pretty good idea of when these items should be done.

The things you can do, it depends on your abilities. A tune up is pretty straight forward. Just remove some of the plastic (air box, washer fluid bottle, anything else in the way). Differential services (there's a drain plug and a fill plug for the front and rear. Make sure the fill plug is out before you open the drain plug!) fuel filter, right on top left of the engine compartment near the strut tower. Trans drain and fill, again there is a drain plug for the trans pan. Make sure you use the right fluid!!!!!!!

Obviously if they recommend a flush you might not be able to do it. Other than that there not that bad to do.

Most places including all of our locations offer a 30k service package which includes a complete fluid changeover (power steering, trans, coolant, brake, oil), air filter, fuel filter, rotate, balance, brake inspection, tune-up, alignment inspection, intake cleaning, injector cleaner, more or less. 4x4 service (front and rear diff and transfer case) is additional as well as some specific vehicle tune-up labor and spark plug cost!
