Ideas???

I've got an old (20 yrs. or so) Strikemaster XL2000 (I think) and yesterday the recoil that pulls the starting string back broke. Not the string, the recoil action is not there any more. I was able to use a pliars and move the wheel backwards to wind the string and continue drilling holes and fishing.

My question is if this can be an easy fix or do I have to take the whole thing apart?

Anyone else ever have to do this? How did you fix it?

StrikeMaster sells recoil repair kits on their web site for $12.50 if you want to do the job yourself. Otherwise a place like D-Rock Center in New Brighton or the service guys at StrikeMaster in Big Lake, or any authorized StrikeMaster repair facility could certainly do the job. I've never had to repair the one on my old MagIII (and I'm not looking forward to the day that I have to) but a certain amount of dis-assembly would be required. Check out the on-line manuals for Techumseh TC motors for detailed instructions. There a link posted to it on this forum a couple of weeks back concerning a question about carberator adjustment, or Google it. Good Luck.

Thanks Stu. I've actually got to go to Monticello on Wednesday for work so I'm going to swing up to Big Lake while I'm there and get the parts/have it fixed I think. I've still got to call them and see if they can fix it (I'm not a handy guy).

You're welcome. On a job like that it might be better to have the pros handle it if you aren't comfortable doing it. The manual has a lot of good information for maintenance and troubleshooting, I found it to be helpful.
