I have an etrex about 5 years old. I purchased the lakemaster software sometime ago and absolutly love it. My problem is when I hook it to my PC to upload my stored waypoints and such the computer does not recognize that the GPS unit is hooked up. It worked at one point, and Ive recently tried it on several computer with the same result. The hookup cable is a serial cable not a USB cable, and Im wondering if the cable may be defective.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Also, is there a USB cable available for the unit instead of a serial cable.

I believe you can get USB cables for the GPS, which would provide much faster downloading than the serial.

If it's not recognizing your unit it sounds like your PC no longer has the unlock code for your GPS. You might try to reinstall the unlock code like you did when you first loaded the Lakemaster software. Beware that the software came with two unlock codes so you can unlock the software for two different units so you probably don't want to waste the second code by linking it to your unit.
