2004 Silverado Check Engine Light

On the way home for LOW last night the check engine light came on steady after filling with gas. Looked in the manual and said to check the gas cap. I didn't tighten it all the way (first time for everything) and drove the rest of the way home, about 3 hours. Truck ran fine but the light didn't go out and was on this morning also. Is it supposed to reset itself or do I have to do something? Maybe get a scan tool and check for codes?

It should reset itself after a few drive cycles.
