Look inside the hull real good to make sure all the framing and stringers are in good shape. Make sure there is no rot. Poke around with a knife or screwdriver along all the edges for any soft spots.

Cosmetic stuff on the outside of the boat is just that, cosmetic. This can be fixed but rot is a different thing altogether and should be your main concern. Some minor soft spots can be repaired with a bit of work but anything more and you may want to reconsider. It can all be fixed, repaired or replaced, but may be quite expensive.

That said, a well cared for wood boat can be a joy to ride in and look at.
