Replacing Sprinkler heads

I have a couple of sprinkler heads in my irrigation system that no longer rotate so I either have to replace them or try to fix them.

Any tricks to fixing stuck sprinklers or setting new ones?

First, if one doesn't rotate you can try stepping on the head with your foot (gently) and push it down and let it come back up...do that a few times and see if it turns. Sometimes this will flush out something that is keeping it from turning.

If that doesn't work, you have to replace. Remove a section of grass around the head (12" diam) then dig the dirt out around and try to get below the bottom of the head, so dirt doesn't get into the line when you remove head. unscrew the head and install new one. back fill and make sure head is at proper height and is vertical, then adjust the rotation and spray pattern.

Step on it when it is popped up and running? I tried moving it around but never tried popping it up and down, I'll try that 1st.
