Trolling motor foot pedal

Is it possible for me to cut the foot pedal off my '96 Evinrude electric trolling motor and splice on something more current?

Is it cable driven?

I believe so, it's pretty big and bulky, not quite sure how to tell though. Hopefully someone has done this before or knows how to do it, it would be great to get that out of the boat.

Why do you want to cut and move it?

I would like to replace it.

If it's cable driven I don't think you would ever get the cable tight enough if you tried to splice one back together. Have you looked at the cabelas bargin cave? Sometimes they have great deals on reconditioned trolling motors or end of the year clearance motors.
