1999 Yamaha F100 Trim Motor Problem

The Problem: When I have the motor in the farthest up position it gets stuck. I have to manually lower the motor a few inches before it will go up or down again.

I was told by a dealer that it is a faulty valve within the pump of this particular trim motor and being that it is a '99, its not covered under warranty. Is this something I can tackle myself or should I leave this job to the professionals?

You're talking a pretty serious dive into the trim and tilt - I'd be tempted to let the pro's handle it.
