Scott M
Caught InFish this morning. They had a neat little segment on bolt rigs for ice out carp. They were on some lake a week after ice out with 2 oz bullet sinkers between two swivels and an 8 inch 30# braid leader back to a hook with a nightcrawler. They were whipping these babies out with 8 foot rods and letting the weights land in the muck. Then they would reel up the slack so the fish would swim along, pick up the bait, feel the weight on the pickup and bolt, effectively setting the hook on themselves and pulling the tip down alerting the angler. Nice little system. Very helpful to me as I've never targeted carp with hook and line in a lake setting. It sure looked like a nice ice out activity...everybody else was chasing spring crappies and these guys were landing huge carp. Don't forget your landing net though...They forgot theirs on the first day and lost a lot of fish.
