Calibrating Trap Thrower

Scott M

Question

I bought a Competitor clay pigeon spring loaded thrower last year and I still can't get the thing to work right. I have it planted in the ground. If I set the tension too high, it breaks the clays on the release. If I set the tension too low, it barely flies 10 yards. I can't seem to find a happy medium. Anybody have problems with these or have a bit of advice? Return it to the company?

Both of them that I have seen have the same problems you are describing. Two of my uncles own them and neither of them could ever get it dialed in. I tinkered with one for about 2 hours with my uncle Dana one day and we just gave up. They are really finicky.

My vote is return it if it is still possible.

If its the model I'm thinking of, I have the same one.

If the clay isn't up against the tray it'll bust them.

Theres a clip that holds the clay against the tray, you might have to tweak that. When I bought mine I was a little skeptical at first because of the low price.

I couldn't be happier with mine and it does side by sides, stacked, and singles very nice. Its mounted on a tire and rim.
