lenny4077
My neighbor just bought a used boat with a Honda motor. The prop shaft appears to be bent; it has a slight wabble when you look straight at it. When the prop is on, there is a little wabble at idle speeds, but none noticeable at higher RPMs. What will need to be done to fix this?? Has anyone had this same problem??Thanks,Lenny
boatfixer
Replacement of the shaft. Without doing so, he risks bearing damage.
mr walleye
Take it in and get a new prop shaft and bearings put in.the bearings are cheap to do now so might as well do them now.and dont run it anymore before you get it fixed
lenny4077
Does anyone know about how much it would be to get the prop shaft replaced? Would it be cheaper/better to replace the whole lower unit? Thanks,Lenny
boatfixer
It will be cheaper to replace the shaft for sure. How much? He'd have to call a few shops to get some quotes. Don't hesitate, I'm sure they are getting very busy now.
marine_man
Definitely cheaper to replace the shaft & bearings than replace the whole lower unit. Definitely get it in soon otherwise he'll be without it for a while.Sorry to hear about the deal... never a good feeling when a guy buys a boat that has a problem right away...marine_man
