Lowrance X70a

Poutwhacker

Question

My old faithful X70a is acting up. Sometimes it starts up and sometimes it won't or it will just shut off on it's own. I am also having trouble with the split screen working. Most of the time the only mode I can use it on is the basic one, which means I can't zoom, use range, get surface temp, etc.

I know it is not worth sending it in to Lowrance, cuz just to look at it would be more than it is worth.

Has anyone out there run into similar problem? I store it inside, so water shouldn't have caused it. It is in good shape otherwise.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance

'Pout

I have an X70A too. It's served me well for many, many years and I just recently starting having problems with it as well. Mine was with the buttons. It would bring up the wrong menus at times or simply make that "noise" it makes when you hit the wrong sequence. Anyway...I finally upgraded last fall, but I'm keeping the old X70A for a back-up.

As for your problem....the only advice I can offer you is to make sure you check the ends of the fuse that's in the red wire going to your battery. I had a little corrosion build up on mine once and it wouldn't turn on like you described. I touched up the ends of the fuse with a file, put it back in place and it worked perfectly after that. That little trick saved a fishing trip. \:\)

Good Luck!
