Boss Hogg
Can anyone who has transported a firearm from the United States to Alaska help me with this question? I know about filling out the necessary paperwork to get a firearm into Canada. (Form PDF554KB). However, reading on a Canadian web site I saw the following: Visitors may import non-restricted firearms for legitimate purposes: in transit movement (i.e., moving in the post direct route possible from Point A to Point through Canada. The most direct route would be straight up the Alaskan Highway, but I want to go to Dawson City and into Alaska that way. That is Not the most direct route. Will they, in fact, enforce this? I don't want to get to the border and find out I can't travel the route that I want to. I am posting this on both the Canada and Alaska forum. kkahmann
Boss if you go to the trouble of filling out the paper work and pay the fee just be honest with them at customs about going to Dawson first and it shouldn't be any problem.I've had a lot of hunters come here and most said they didn't even want to see the gun just the paper work--didn't seem to care where it went after that. Boss Hogg
kkahmann: Thanks for the reply. I always have been straight with the border guards. So, I am going to give it a try and see just what happens. It just would not be fun if I have to back track half way back to Minnesota, if I can't travel the route I planned. Thanks again. kkahmann
I just talked to a friend that brings his moose rifle in every year.Last time he didn't have the paperwork before hand he just had all info on the rifle--make, model, caliber and most important barrel lenght--he said put a tape measure in the gun case--They will fill the paperwork out and check your barrel lenght--charge you $25 and you are good to go for a year--anywhere in the country.
