Christopher Quast
I have an h20 and was wondering what some of the dis and advantages are between the lakemaster and the hotmaps chips are and if the hotmaps fit the Lowrances Thanks for any help
0 raymondk
First thing if you only fish mn lakemaster would be my first choice also lakemaster shows state hunting land and most roads. but if you fish the 5 state area go with the hotmaps. You can do a check to see which lakes are on both of them . I did alot of checking before i decided since I am also a hunter the lakemaster chip also shows wma areas i don't know if the other chips show that. 0 BucksnDucks
The HotMaps cover a broader area of the upper midwest if I remember rite. Whereas the Lakemaster has just got the state usually of which you choose for the road mapping detail. HotMaps key selling pitch is that there road mapping is "so much better" than Lakemaster, which is a total crock! I've found that Lakemaster has numerous more remote back roads than just the standard freeways. highways, and some county black tops. If your looking for public hunting and fishing areas, the Lakemaster is still a hands down winner. There precise depth for most of the larger lakes in MN are rite on the nuts! Of course each chip has the depths of some lakes that the other does not, but what i've found is Lakemaster still has more and much better detail. Some of the depth charts that both use, are out-dated old MN DNR maps, but they still give you a good idea of what ur looking at! Also to answer your ? about the Hotmaps working with Lowrance, yes I have the Expedetion and both work with it. Hope this helps you out, and gets you pointed in the rite direction! 0 Northlander
I have found that Navionics Premium North is the best chip up north. Lakemaster just doesnt seem to have a lot of Northern lakes but the real big ones. Lakemaster does better on roads by far though. If its only for fishing or mostly I would go Navionics for fishing up north. Or if you fish outside Mn. Lakemaster zooms in closer but that has never really helped me out that much. If you dont fish up North by me or farther Lakemaster may do ya. Go on thier websites and look up the lists of lakes each covers. Remember not all are in high detail.
