lab eating deck

I have a 3 year old black lab that is eating the wooden railing of my deck.Is this normal for this old of a dog? Is there any way to stop this? Thanks.

I've got a lab that is almost 2 years old and she chews on her cedar kennel anytime she gets bored. I know they make the stuff that you spray on the wood to prevent the chewing (puppies use normally) but I know I don't intend to "paint" the dog house with it and I wouldn't want to have to coat a deck either.

Sorry as I don't have any great suggestions. I did leave my dog's e-collar on a couple of times and went into a bedroom that overlooked the kennel and waited for her to begin to chew and nicked her---seems to have decreased and now the colder weather has her more in the house than chewing on the outside so I don't think it was a cure all.

I bought some of the No Chew spray for my Britt pup. Might as well have called it appetizer spray, didn't even slow him down. I have heard that wiping a little bit of tobasco sauce onto the items you don't want chewed works wonders.
