squeedunk
Towards the end of last season I had the inside part (graphite I believe???) of the lowest guide pop out on my muskie rod. It is a Berkley Lightning Rod that is about 7 years old. Can this be replaced without mailing it in to Berkley? Does Thorne Bros. or anywhere else do this sort of repairs? Thanks~Dan
bigbritt
thorne bros will repair that no problem. just bring in the rod when you can and it will be done in a couple of days
DinkADunk
Yep, Thorne Brothers or Midwest Rod and Reel can do the work locally. The only problem, if there is one, is exactly matching the guide and/or thread. You may want to contact Berkley and see what guide and thread they used on your rod. This is also a fairly easy fix to do yourself if you're at all interested in learning rod building.
squeedunk
I was also thinking about doing it on my own. I want to start rod building but am not quite sure where to begin...I would assume Thorne Bros would be a good route. I got a gift card to Thorne for X mas and I'm thinking that it's going to get spent really soon! Thanks for the input.~Dan
DinkADunk
One of the rod-building kits from Mudhole or Cabela's would be an ok place to start. The how to build a flyrod book from Flexcoat pretty well describes the process (available at Thorne Brothers). From there you can buy or build the tools you'll need to get started. The processes is fairly simple, just remember neatness counts.
