Propane Furnace - Pilot Light

Wayne Sieber

Question

Help - My In-laws have a cabin and my father in law insists on keeping the pilot light lit year round, 24/7 on the furnace - Does anyone know if this is necessary or is it simply wasting propane. FYI - During the winter months the cabin only gets used 3-4 times max. Thanks!

i would leave it on it may use a little gas, but often a pilot that is off for a long period of time can get plugged a small amount of gas is quite a bit cheaper than a service call
