Studer
I thought I would start a post about what different people use for aggressive tactics for whitetailed deer!!! i.e. when you would use rattling antlers, grunt calls, bleats, snort wheeze, Doe in estrous scents, buck urine scents, mock scrapes, decoys, what times of year, how often, what time of day, etc. etc. I am sure we all have an array of equipment for calling deer but not sure we are all 100% sure on when and how. Myself included. Thought this would be a great topic this time of year!!! Let's hear em..... Here is my thoughts....I personally would pull out the rattle bag before and after the rut and maybe hit em' together every couple of hours. As far as the grunt calls, those I would think you could use a bit more often to catch any cruising deer. This early in the game I more or less sit and wait for something to happen. I have only been bowhunting for a few years now and I feel that getting too aggressive with calls etc. this early in the season might just be spooking deer. I could be wrong and I know that there are some deer that will come running. Just my experience. As far as scents and mock scrapes etc. as soon as I start seeing scrapes and rubs start showing up in the woods, that is when I will pull out the scents. I will freshen each scrape I see. You can get doe urine in a spray bottle and when you come across a scrape, just spray a bit and get out. I have not used in the past but have heard of these working wonders and will probably get one soon.....THE DAY DRIPPER!!! These will pattern these deer to come and visit the scrapes in the daylight hours when you are in stand. What other tactics are people using????
