How aggressive do you get on the duck call on opener? or do you just let the dekes take care of it?

Personally I dont get to aggressive...i give a couple high balls to get there attention. When the ducks see the dekes normally then its in the hands of the dekes.

What are your guys' thoughts?

I react to what the ducks want. If they show interest in my spread and respond to the calling, then I will keep on them, but that will be later in the day. Right away, (9 a.m.) I usually just give them a few quack and let the decoys do the rest.

It also makes a difference if you are competing with other hunters. If you are then you may have to be more aggressive with the call.

If your all alone on a pond some calling may be required. If your on a public marsh and the other groups are blasting their calls at the ducks like most do on opening weekend, no calling is needed. Let them puck the ducks to you. I will rarely blow my call opening weekend just for that reason, everyone is and the birds get wise to that quickly.
