suckers???

Was using some 8-10inch suckers last night with some good sized sharp j hooks last night. Got a few good hit and runs last night and the fish felt like it was there on two of them and one was a set and miss completely. I let the fish run with it for probably 30 seconds and either stop or I start to run out of line before I set it hard with no real slip. Does anyone see what I am doing wrong. I was out 4 nights ago and hooked up with a few using the same method.

You may not be doing anything wrong. It sounds like you had some gar hitting your suckers and they will pick up the bait and run just like a flat. Trouble is that they are hard to hook and you will experience exactly what was happening to you. Did you lose the sucker each time?

yes I lost the sucker each time.. I even felt one time before setting the hook and I could feel something hitting on it but not that hard.

Sounds to me like you had some gar in the area and they were hitting your suckers. Happens all the time - sometimes the only thing to do is move if you lose a few suckers without a good hookup.
