Time to Upgrade my Electronics..

For all you guys that made the jump to the new Lowrance color units....is it worth the extra $??? I've become quite comfortable with my old x70A and as I look at the bright orange colors on these other units...well, it looks kind of odd to me. I was thinking maybe the x135 would be a nice upgrade. Anyone??

This is my first year running a color graph/GPS and they are great. I previously ran the X-65, X85, X15 units and although they were good for their time, I was really surprised how much the color units define what is under the water. Just like a flasher that you use in the winter, different colors represent different signal strengths and that helps decipher what's down there.

I think the first time you hit the water with one and spend some time adjusting the settings while getting used to it, you'll really come to like the color and wonder why you didn't get one sooner.

It looks like the color unit (x510c) without GPS is going for $450 vs. $380 for the non-color unit (x135). So I guess the price really isn't a factor after all.

Hmmm....what to do. What about the 2400 watt color vs. the 4000 watt non-color in these two models....is that an issue?? I don't fish that deep, but maybe it effects readings at faster speeds or overall sharpness...or maybe not??

Get COLOR It is a lot easier to read in the sun light and if you have poor eyesight. You will be really happy with a color screen. The more watts will help you in deeper water and will give you a better reading in deeper water. I have fished with a lot of guys that have 2500 watts and they love them.

I wouldn't let the difference in power affect the decision between the two. I have two LMS-520's and really like them.

I really like my X102c, I don't think I would ever buy another black and white unit, for all the reasons mentioned above.

I have an X97 on my bowmount and an X102c on the console. I really like the X102c and finally put my X70A in the garbge can yesterday after several years of sitting on a shelf in the garage. I had the X70A for a lot of years and it was hard to let it go, but I was having some problems with it and wanted to try a color unit. I don't think I'll look back though.

Ok fellas...mostly because of the positive feedback from you guys on the color units, I went ahead and purchased one. My x510c arrived yesterday and I'm hooking it up today. I was a little surprised they left so many wires that needed to be soldered....looks like I'm making a run to town before I do anything.

I know what you mean cold one about finding it hard to let the old x70A go. I bundled mine up and I think I'll keep it on the shelf for awhile as a back-up. Hmm..the dang thing worked perfectly last time out too....go figure.

good buy. I also upgraded this year from a LMS 305-A to a X28HD. wow is all I have to say, very easy to read in any light, and a lot of great features. I bought the chip from lakemaster, which I like very much. one foot increments on big sandy helps.
