I need some info. I have a 6'9 heavy action musky rod with an Abu garcia 6500 reel. That is what I use for cat fishing. I am going musky fishing in a couple of weeks and need to know what kind of line I should use and what kind of leader? Could someone give me some info please.

For line I like 80lbs Power Pro, I have also used Cortland Masterbraid and Tufline with out problems. You will want to start the spool with mono of around 20lbs test as backing. For leaders I like 130lbs fluorocarbon for most baits. I will use longer ones for trolling and 175lbs single strand for jerkbaits. Make sure the snaps and swivels are good. I have had problems with multi-strand leaders so I don't use them much any more. Also most places that sell the line will have some useful advice. Good luck fishing.

you will want to leave some of the mono on the spool for the braid to bite into, maybe as a filler( depending on the size of your spool). if you tie briad directly to the spool and it isn't cross drilled, it will spin on it.
