Blackdogs
Hello all. Just looking for some advice on duck hunting this fall.Myself and a few relatives are coming out to the Ortonville area the weekend of October 20th to do some pheasant hunting. I am wondering if there is any easily access public land where I might be able to get some pass shooting at ducks or if any field hunting opportunities exist in the area...Thanks for any help you can offer. carpshooterdeluxe
get one of the minnesota atlas' that contain public land information. big stone county holds some of the best waterfowling in the state. with a little luck in the weather, you could be into some good waterfowling. there are many quality public hunting areas that have little to no pressure during the week. weekends can be tricky, but after pheasant season starts theres less pressure. ortonville
it all depends on the weather.there can be good pass shooting geese coming off the refuge at times.as far as field hunting ducks it is mostly later in the year unless we have some good sheet water.when it gets closer to october give a shout i dont work much in the fall i may be able to help you out

carpshooterdeluxe
hey ortonville, how are the duck and goose numbers looking? i drove county rd. 63? from the west-con tanks all the way to artichoke last weekend, water levels looked good but was mid-day, didnt see too many broods swimming around on the sloughs. was surprised to see three nice hatches of redheads on a slough we hunt by artichoke though! ortonville
i think that road is 64.the #'s dont look bad but i think the geese are down from years past.if you get out in the evenings when the bugs are out there are many little ducks out grubbing.there sure are not many wheat fields in the area corn price must be to high.we dont have any wheat this year.so i am knocking on doors just like everyone else this year.but we have all ready got permission for enough fields to hold us through early season
