Im just getting into catfishing, ive caught a few nice channels from shore but am thinking about taking the boat out and go for some big flatheads, I know you want to fish by like creekmouths, log jams and the edges of holes, but what general depth do you fish in at night?

By creeks, I've caught them in depths between 4 feet and 20 feet. I usually try to target a current seam in front of creeks, no matter the depth...that seam might be deeper if there's more flow out of the creek, might be shallower if there's less flow. If there's multiple people in the boat it's nice because you can chuck baits into different depths and perhaps find a pattern. Otherwise you're stuck moving your solo bait around. Harder to pattern them this way, since they're suck a sporadic bite anyway.

Some people might tell you not to drive over the area you're going to fish, but I disagree. Go over the area really well so you have a mental picture of what the different depths are, how deep the main channel is there, etc. You will want to target those places where the depth changes quickly. The top of a shelf is always a good spot to try.
