Bait?

I just caught last night my first catfish (a puny flathead) and am now hooked on this whole catfishing thing.I caught it on a gob of crawlers. The crawlers are a bit of a pain though. Something small keeps taking them off the hook within a couple of minutes, so I have to rebait constantly.

I think cut bait would be better. Where does everyone get their bait from? I live near White Bear Lake.

Also, where and how do people catch suckers and bullheads for bait?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you want flatheads go with live bait. Bullheads, suckers, creek chubs. I catch my chubs in small streams and creeks in fast water(my creek is the minnehaha here in the south metro). Suckers I buy, and bullheads can be found in just about any of the metro lakes.

Channels I use cutbait, suckers(purchased or caught), or chubs which I again catch in the creeks.

Be careful about harvesting bait from infested waters. Minnehaha Creek is infested waters. See pages 68 - 69, 2007 Minnesota Fishing Regulations.
