Hunter Winfield’s Resort On Mille Lacs Lake

When looking for a vacation resort, many are searching for a small cozy resort atmosphere filled with large resort conveniences. Is there such a resort? I think we found it! grin.gif While traveling the south shore of Mille Lacs Lake, we stopped in at Hunter Winfield's Resort, located in Isle, Minnesota, to take a look around. Hunter Winfield’s is that smaller "cozy" resort, nestled in the woods, that many are searching for. Yet, Hunter Winfield’s offers everything a large-scale resort does, without the congestion, noise and aggravation. Follow us along for a quick tour.

Cabins

Offering three remodeled log cabins (one large and two small) each cabin contains two bedrooms (plus a pull out couch) a full kitchen and private bath. Inside and out, these cabins are clean!

New carpet, paint and furnishings made it feel like home when walking through on a tour. Living and bedroom areas are spacious.

Within the month, this new two-story log cabin for that “extra special” wink.gif getaway should be placed on its footings and will offer a breath-taking view across Mille Lacs Lake.

We’d like to stop back to see this lakefront cabin when it’s ready. The plans for availability soon are on schedule and it sounds like it'll be awesome!

Got RV?

Four RV sites are available at Hunter Winfield’s - Lakeside with water/sewer/electric hook-up.

Got Boat?

If you need to launch your boat, Hunter Winfield’s private boat ramp is in excellent shape, lined with new dockage, a gas pump and it's deep enough for most any boat. The dock is also protected from winds being it’s nestled back in the bay.

Got Romance?smirk.gif

How about a private cruise on a 26’ Sea Ray? Looks like a nice way for a couple to relax during the evening.

Got Marshmallows?

Being a smaller resort, it’s not uncommon for guests to meet around the bonfire during the evening to relax, make some smores and swap stories about the day’s adventures or of the big one that got away.

Guests also have access to a small lodge on the resort grounds to watch a ball game on TV or connect to the Internet, to check HotSpotOutdoors, if needed.smirk.gif

The office and store carry a variety of items you may have forgotten.

Located close to Father Hennepin State Park for a day of biking, walking and hiking. And, the main street of Isle is just a block up the road where antique and craft shops and café’s are plentiful.

Need More?

If that’s not enough for you, hop aboard Hunter Winfield’s 44-foot launch with Captain Dereke Voge for a relaxing 4-hour fishing trip.

Open and charter launches are available throughout the week with Captain Voge.

p6294642dz1.jpg

Captain Voge's 44-foot launch is one of the newer launches on Mille Lacs and the vessel is equipped with top quality fishing gear, navigational instruments and safety gear.

Here’s Captain Voge readying the net for my son, Cory, as he works to hoist up a hefty walleye. Look at the bend of that pole!

Unfortunately, here’s one tale for the bonfire of “the fish that got away”.mad.gif

Aside from being aboard a clean, safe, quality launch, we were impressed with Captain Voge’s personalized service while on his vessel as well.

You don’t have to know how and where to fish, just climb aboard and reel ‘em in!

Adam shows the right attitude.... Mountain Dew, Oreos and fishing pole.... What more does a fisherman need?cool.gif

Need Even More?!shocked.gif

Hunter Winfield’s can provide. Private guided fishing trips, boat and ATV rentals to name just a few more activities available. During the ice fishing season, snowmobiles and deluxe ice fishing houses are a couple more additions.

So, if you’re looking for a cozy and quiet resort at a reasonable cost, we would suggest giving Hunter Winfield’s a call! And, ask about the mid-week special when you call, which includes a free night stay!

Dave,

Great job on Hunterwinfields! It looks like Marge and their family and friends have put allot into this resort. I am sure that Marge's husband is very proud of her and the rest of the people involved.

The resort looks great! This lake is very much in need of other resorts upgrading to accomedate more of a family friendly atmosphere.

Hunter Winfields Resort would be a excellent choice to stay on Mille Lacs Lake.

Fish On!!!

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
