Salmon rod for musky

I have a 8'6" st. croix MH salmon spinning rod that I would like to use for musky...I'd be using it mainly for bucktails & spinnerbaits, I know the rod can handle a musky but am wondering if the shimano symetre 2500 that's on it will hold up?

I'm no expert on muskie rods, but have been trying to use my salmon rods for other things...if your 8'6" isn't too moderate in action it should make an OK bucktail rod, but a lot of salmon rods are more designed for trolling and not casting, and have moderate actions. Not my first choice. I think the 2500 is too small, and not designed for 20 + lb mono, which is about the minimum I'd be useing. You could probably put 30-50 lb braid on it and do OK, but spinning reels in general don't work as well for large muskie lures, although I do have one on my boat. It's a bigger spinner, with braid, on a 7 ft inshore spinning rod that has some good backbone.
