Hello Everyone!
I need some advice on how to fix-up my old clam. This is whats wrong with it :

1. wing-nuts on the floor freeze up,which led to me breaking one of them and putting a hole in the old particle board cover.

2.plastic u-clips on the roof pole broke.

3.latches on the side of this suitcase style thing keep breaking off.

So what should i do to fix these things? Any help would be great!oh yah is there some kind of preserver or protectant i should be applying to the cover? Thanks again.

matt
p.s the temps in my area got down below freezing point last night, this is awesome!

Hey z-man, welcome to the forum. Where are you from, I like the sound of that weather. Anyways, I've experienced problems with the u-clamps in my Fish Trap II as well. I found some similiar to them at Home Depot. As far as the wing nuts go I would say to just replace them with new ones. The straps on the side are just a pain to start with. I would use a bungie cord. Hope some of this helped.
Good Fishin, Matt.

A few years ago, I had lost the roof pole on my Clam, and had broken one of the 'U' clamps as well, so I went to USL (I think that is the manufacturer's name) in Plymouth,MN and bought a new pole ($8) and they gave me a package of about 5-6 extra 'U' clamps for free. These are the type which slide into the open "female" end of the poles, and the other end being the clamp. Try USL. I think they'll set you up. As for the canvas cover, I have used Camp Dry and am planning to try a new product called Canvac I saw in Cabellas this year. Good luck!

Z-man - sell it and buy a Frabill XLTwin. It holds all your gear and has plenty of room. Sets up fast and pulls easy. Just make sure you get the cover for it. I have a Otter (single), but like the Frabill much better. Plenty of room for two, but I usually am alone and enjoy the space. I can hardly wait to get going smile.gif

Hey, thanks for the help guys!

It would be nice to have a flip-over type too, but you can't beat a portable you can set a cot up in, oh yah I fish 2-4 guys in it all the time so I can't give it up.

I live in brainerd MJ5, so i'm within minutes to tons of lakes! It seems like every year up here I stumble upon a new lake or crappie hole. I love it here!!!

Thanks Again,
Matt

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
