Lows spots in Lawn

I finally got my grass cut and today cut it for the second time. (Just moved in) The problem is there are a few low spots. I seem to recall when I was young, filling low spots with black dirt. The grass grew right through the dirt and no more low spot. It will make it easier to mow as the low spot is very wet and the mower bogs down a lot. Is there a specific type of dirt to use?
