Flatheads on the Minn. River by Minneapolis?

I've never been flathead fishing before but after looking at all these pics I'm starting to drool. I use to be a hard-core walleye/bass/pike/muskie fisherman, and always thought of everything else as trash fish. Well, that was before I moved down here and found out what a carp was! Anyways, I'm looking at getting into it, I figured my muskie gear would be plenty good. My biggest problem is picking a spot to fish. I'd be coming from the north metro, and driving all the way down there, fishing all night, and driving all the way back doesn't sound like a good idea. Not looking for honeyholes, just wondering if the Minnesota River by the metro is any good. From reading these posts I can tell down by Mankato is great. Also, if any of you guys wouldn't mind me tagging along for a trip to figure out what it's all about, I'll be more than happy to provide bait/drinks/food, etc!

They are definatly there! Being it is a concrete jungle there the spots are not as obvious ie. no trees. SO look for current breaks or running water flowing in. Wingdams are great for holding fish too. You will see a lot of walleye guys hooking into some big flats while trolling or jigging wingdams. There are some good shore spots out there but the best you could do is get a boat out there to check out these spots for yourself.

Good luck!
