Vexilar Transducers

RJ

Recommended Posts

I wanted a 19 degree ice-ducer for my FL-18. Shallow water fisherman, generally. I read, I believe here, that all Vexilar transducers are interchangable between FL-8 and my FL-18. I bought the first 19 degree model I found. It was labeled for the FL-8, but I thought that wouldn't matter.

In a magazine I pick up last weekend, Reed's have a flyer that talks about a different model for each. They have Model TB0050 for the FL-8 (the one I bought), and a Model TB 0080 for the FL-18.

I haven't used the new one yet, not much ice over here in Michigan. Going north in search of ice. Will my new transducer work? Will it work as well?

OK, I go to Vexilar's web-page and found part of my answer. The FL-18 model is the 12 degree ice-ducer. I allready have one of them. Believe Reed's add is wrong. It lists both as 19 degree models.

Anyone else using the 19 degree for the FL-18? How's it work? I generally am in less than 15 feet of water. I drill two holes, and put the ducer in one of them. I can't see the jig in the second hole, even though it's only about three feet away. Think I'll like the 19.

I opted for the dual 9/19 degree transducer when I bought my FL-18. It has a switch that you can flip - makes it really easy. I like it very much. I use the one that shows best for where I am fishing. The unit would have come with the 12, but was given the chance to go with the dual for about 20 bucks more -at Reeds in Walker.

I also bought the dual beam transducer and have used it in red lake and just got back from fort peck and was very satisfied with it. the auto zoom worked excellent in 60' of water even though the fish weren't biting we brought home a few northerns. the dual beam I feel like Raven it is worth the extra $20.

Couldn't find the dual beam when shopping. I bought with the 12. I plan to have both with me, most of the time. While seldom, I do fish trout in deeper water, and think the 12 degree will do the job. I really wanted the 19 for bluegill/crappie in 15' or less water. Think I'll be fine. Cost me quite a bit more than $20 extra though. The 19 degree rascal was over $70 at Jay's in Gaylord, MI

Good fishing to all, hope the ice lasts. We are expecting thunderstorms and fifty degrees in Mid-Michigan today.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
